3 reasons to say, So Long To Neutrals!
3 Reasons to say "so long to neutrals" and abandon the colorless look. Oh, I better get politically correct here - the "neutral color palette".Can I get an AMEN? I mean thank goodness another year has past and we are finally seeing the light. The design community HAS FINALLY realized its time to move on from Neutrals. I'm excited to get back into color! Nice deep saturated colors that have some SOUL and some cheerful pops to add delight! Honestly, when I walk into an ALL neutral toned room, I feel as if I'm flat lining. No spark, No life, No energy! Why in the world does anyone want to feel that? Granted some people feel at peace with neutrals, but I'm hoping they add white rather than all of the muted dreary colors like gray and brown. White and black are the ONLY saving grace of that color scheme!Going neutral is a safe bet, you can't go wrong with that, right? Wrong! It’s the vanilla in the interior design world. Now, I'm not saying vanilla is terrible, but when you leave off the sprinkles and Gummy Bears? Now we have a problem! For the past 5 plus years, it's been the default color combination and it's time to STOP. Pretty soon I won’t be able to differentiate one home from another. It's like me looking for my white car in a parking lot filled with White, Black and Silver S.U.V's. You have no idea how many times I've had to walk down each row of cars at the mall to find my car. It's just plain sad to live in a sea of sameness. Read on as I continue to state my case with why you should ditch this colorless, emotionless look.Imagine your average non-color room - a room filled with cream, gray, brown, and white. First of all how boring is that? NO personality, NO energy, NO FUN! As a working mom, I work long hours then go right into mommy mode. I can't imagine walking into a room that will make my energy feel flattened. I need EVERY ounce of energy to get #wyatttheriot motivated to wash his hands, do his homework, get ready for soccer. You know the new witching hour is after school with kids in 1st grade. For those of you who have just had babies, yep, the witching hour is still a thing at this age, too! Be prepared, my New Mommy friends.I don't know about you, but me, I'm not interested in living in my OWN home in a colorless safe zone - or I call it the "Dead Zone". I want my personality to shout out! My friends know me and say I have a lot of personality - my home and it's décor show it! A hint of color brings a smile to my face. I feel a burst of energy when I scan a room with hits of POP. The best is when you first enter a room and you see 2-3 unexpected colors. It's got to be done tastefully of course - not all crazy color overload. That would make me one batty lady and I have enough of that with 2 active boys. Nope, just a hint here and there to give me a little joy.All of us are different in our own unique way. We gravitate to certain colors and styles that are individual to us. Listen to your instincts - don't run with the mainstream and default to what you see in magazines or model homes. There IS a way to achieve a model home look that is your very own style. If you're ready to break the mold and go bold give me a ring and let's push the limits to what the possibilities are for you.
