Luxury Interior Design on Any Budget

Being a designer I do have some tricks up my sleeve to keep cost down and know where to splurge a little. I work with all types of budgets from high to low. Each client is unique and has different needs and values. As part of my service, I decipher these wants and needs and decide which selections to add value to and which piece to pull back on.For example, a couple of years ago I had this one project with a client that was contemplating moving to a new home. Regardless of the move, she knew 100% she wanted to update her current living room ASAP. She was tired of coming home after a LONG day of work and sitting in the same old dark leather dingy sofa next to the dark expresso matching side table and coffee table. Taking into consideration that she may move, she wanted to spend less than $4000 for the whole space. This was the budget for the entire room! Yep, THE ENTIRE ROOM! Not only did I create a living room she absolutely loved it was under budget by $1000! Check out below to see how we pulled it off.

Custom Fabric Selection

The sofa above is 100% custom made! I chose a fabric that I knew was a great price for the quality. I guided the client and sofa maker with the size, scale, and style. Plus an added bonus the fabric was already treated with a stain resistant finish (score!). What can I say - sometimes I get lucky?

Designer Only Buying Power

The coffee table shown here was from one of my long-time vendors and they were having a sale ONLY for designers. Again, SCORE! I knew this vendor's product line would be right up my client's alley. So I hopped into my car and shopped the best table with the most character. Not only does it have tons of character - it was a part of their one of a kind line, so NO ONE has this style table out there. I shot a quick photo of it and texted it to her. She replied instantly with a "YES"!

Knowing Specialty Vendors

These nesting tables took a little more time to find but since I'm always out and about shopping for all of my clients, I spotted them at a local retailer. The bummer was the colors were not working - when I first saw them, they were green. My client hates green!I was so torn - the shape was great but how could we get past the color? I kept thinking about them over and over, day and night for several days and then I knew something had to be done. When I set my mind to it, I make things happen, baby! It was time to problem solve! I picked them up for an amazing price of little over $100.00 and brought them to my furniture finisher. He owed me a favor so he only charged me $30.00 to paint both. Voila! Perfect shape AND color. It is all a matter of knowing specialty vendors!

Darn, I Shop All The Time

My job takes me to all types of retailers in the area - some mom and pop places and some not so mom and pop spots like HomeGoods.I was there picking up accessories for another project and spotted this little accent chair. It was so lonely and oh so Khaki. I couldn’t possibly pass it up. I knew I had to get it right then and there. After all, HomeGoods is known as "here today and gone tomorrow". So as a seasoned designer I grabbed it and had it reupholstered using the perfect fabric and color. I envisioned this sweet little chair to have a voice in this space. And this red gave it the presence I wanted her to have.As you can see it doesn’t take Luxe amount of cash to create a luxury feeling room. All it takes is a seasoned designer who knows where to go and simply applies some tricks of the trade to create that "WOW" factor.Like what you see?
