Healthy Bedroom Makeover, One Room Challenge Week 6

WEEK 1     |     WEEK 2     |     WEEK 3     |     WEEK 4     |     WEEK 5

Thank GOODNESS for the final deadline!

Thank GOODNESS the final deadline is Sunday night.  Week 6 of the one room challenge definitely presented its challenges.  While resting after my appendicitis surgery I was still in communication with my upholsterer. We planned to install the bed on Tuesday the day before the initial deadline.  I was ready and excited, I also had coordinated with my photographer to take photos the next day.  I would have received the photos that day and posted my blog on the same day. In time to hit the initial deadline.  BUT my upholster used the WRONG fabric for the bed!  He used the fabric that was planned for a decorative pillow.  You should have seen my face!  I was speechless.  I had no words but WTF happened? After getting upset I really didn’t care how this mistake happened.  I texted my upholsterer and simply said the bed is in the wrong fabric.  The bed along with the RIGHT fabric is coming back to you. Fix it!

The next day it was fixed and the bed was installed.  Like I said at the beginning of the challenge there will ALWAYS be something that goes wrong with a project.   When there is a problem there is a solution.  This profession has taught me when problems occur roll with it and get it resolved.  There is a lot that happens behind the scenes that my clients NEVER hear about.  They just get to enjoy the fun process and the final outcome.

Fortunately, my photographer was able to shoot the room on Saturday (yesterday) and today I'm laying in bed typing up my very last post about the challenge.  After 6 weeks of running around pulling samples, making quick decisions and coordinating with all of my trades.   I can finally CHILL in my newly re-done healthy bedroom.Majority of my projects are NOT for my personal home.  I didn't treat this project any differently.  This time it was my husband that was the client.   At the end of every project, I ask my client what their experience was like and how they feel about their new space?  His response was "I LOVE the bed and if feels like I'm staying at a hotel". I think by his response he is delighted with the outcome.  Thank goodness!

For me, the room is much brighter and exudes a sense of calm.  The best part of it is that all of the materials used are 100% Non-Toxic. Right down to the bedding!  The sheets are Gots certified 100% organic cotton, the bedding is 100% cotton.  PLUS the pillows!  The pillows that we use to rest our heads on while we sleep are all made of 100% natural materials.  I'm extremely excited to have found a factory that I plan to partner with to create my own line of non-toxic pillows.  Some of which will be latex noodles, cotton, wool, and Kapok.  All of these pillows will be made using organic latex, organic cotton, and organic wool.  I purchased my first latex noodle pillow about 2 months ago and since then my allergies have gotten better!  My sense of smell is back!  I'll get into that another time.  But for now, I'm a firm believer that changing out my Polyester filled hypoallergenic pillows with latex and a kapok pillow really pushed the needle for my allergies.

If you're interested in getting your very own all-natural pillow to sign up for my newsletter and I will let you know when they become available.  It will Be SOON!

The latex noodles are actually created when the latex is being formed.  You can see above the holes in the latex that is where the noodles are created from.  When producing these pillows there is ZERO waste!  A win for going green.  But if it was thrown away the latex is 100% biodegradable.

Kapok is 100% natural made from the Kapok tree.  The touch is like down but will not flatten like down.  It's a great vegan alternative to down fillers.

I have another surprise to announce.

I have partnered up with Right Point Linen to help them design their bedding collection.  Right Point Linen was birthed from the action sports industry (my previous career) as a fashion designer within that market.  Think Volcom, Quiksilver, RVCA that is the market my good friend and I worked in for over 20 years and want to create a bedding line that tells a story about that lifestyle.  We shopped for some fabrics at a local fabric store and made some pillows and a throw blanket for the challenge. Kind of a debut for them.  There is still much more work to be done but I felt that I could incorporate it into my One Room Challenge.  Once it's more put together I will announce more about it a later time.

Before the BIG REVEAL, I'd like to thank my sponsors.  Revolution fabric, ATM safe coats and Fabricut.

Now for the BIG REVEAL!  The before photos are at the bottom so you can see where I started.

Now that I'm chilling in my non-toxic healthy bedroom I can catch up on all of the others that participated in the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE.  Check out their progress Featured Designers andGuest Participants.
