Case of the Custom Lighting Fixture
You see this lighting fixture right here? Yes, it's custom - sounds super fancy, I know. I get TONS of questions about it. In fact. Let’s explore the case of the custom lighting fixture!
Where Inspiration Comes From
How did this custom lighting fixture come to mind and how did I make it happen? Let's start from the beginning, shall we? When I first presented my client the idea of the galvanized pipes hung from the ceiling and pendant lights wrapped around the pipe, I used a photo that I screenshot from Instagram. Yep, totally, I get inspiration from all over! You see, when I have idle time, which is almost never, I’m looking for inspiration. When I'm waiting for the water to fill up the pitcher or something along those lines, I'm scrolling through ALL social media channels, blogs, and sometimes direct newsletters from my favorite designers, tastemakers, and manufacturers. Another source of inspiration is attending all design-related shows such as Dwell On Design, West Edge Design Fair, Midcentury Modernism week. Thankfully, the list goes on and on since I need to fill my creative juices every now and then. I don't want to dry up like a raisin with no inspiration, do I? No WAY! Enough about my scrolling habits, though - let's fast track to when I knew what I was working with.
Custom Lighting Creation Process
To create this and make sure it came out perfectly, I had to know three things:
Galvanized pipes
Light fixtures
The console table.
I needed to know ALL of this before planning everything out. It took some SERIOUS MATH! That's what it comes down to. I needed to plan everything out to a tee. I needed to know that the pendant lights can physically be wrapped around the pipe and how far I wanted them to hang. I wanted to be sure my vision was going to execute exactly what I had in mind.Oh, wait... let's back up! Before presenting the idea to the client, I first needed to know if this was even possible. So during my trade day visit at my client's, I reviewed my ideas with my contractor to get the green light on all boring technical aspects. (This is one benefit my clients get to avoid by retaining my services.) Nothing is worse than presenting something that is impossible to do! Talk about BUZZ KILL! Nope, not going to do that to my clients - "Happy clients = Happy designer". That is my goal with EVERY project. Now that I had everything figured out and the green light from my client and contractor. Now it is gameday! Gameday is an exciting day, it's when my vision finally comes to life! Now keep in mind my entire vision is only 2/3 of the way complete. Next, is how the gallery wall came to life. I'll let you ponder that one till I give up my secrets. Till then my friends! In the meantime, if you have a design dilemma and want that curated look that you see in the magazines, contact me anytime and let's talk ideas! I have the perfect package to help you gain a place you love to come home too.
